Several name changes have been made to the industries shown in the stub of table . In this table, of tables presents detailed estimates of the foreign direct investment position in the United States on a historical-cost, or book-value, basis and of the related capital and income flows. These tables supplement an article in the June S C B that summarized developments in the direct investment positions at historical cost in . Tables and show estimates of the position, capital flows, and income at the most detailed levels possible—that is, for every country from which there was investment and for every industry in which investment was made. Estimates for are preliminary; those for – are revised. The estimates in tables – differ in two respects from those for comparable items included in the international investment position of the United States and in the U.S. international transactions accounts. First, the estimates in tables – are on a historical-cost basis, which is the only basis on which detailed estimates by country and industry are available; in contrast, the aggregate estimates of the direct investment position that are included in the international investment position of the United States are presented on both a current-cost and a market-value basis, and the aggre-
